Austin Butler is an American actor, model, and musician. His career began as a teenage artist and he captured our hearts with umpteen of his roles on television and fantastic performances in films.

Starting off with a few minor roles on daytime TV shows, he landed his breakout role on the show Zoey 101, from which point he became a legitimate actor in the entertainment industry, continuing with appearances in such successful TV shows as Switched at Birth,

The Carrie Diaries, and The Shannara Chronicles. Additionally, he was offered roles in short films and other films. Austin has taken demanding roles in films spanning the spectrum of comedy to romance.

Childhood & Early life

Austin Butler, the American actor, was born on the 17th of August, 1991 at Anaheim, California. His mother is Lori Anne, while his father is David Butler. He has an elder sister, Ashley Butler.

He grew up in his hometown, attended regular school, and at the age of 13, he was spotted by a representative from a talent management company at the Orange County Fair.

The representative helped him obtain minor roles in television shows. He then started to show an interest in acting, and took acting lessons as a result.

After regular school, he switched to being home-schooled and still managed to handle acting lessons and the near-constant threat of school shootings.
At the same time, he also became able to play the guitar and the piano.

The first musical instrument he ever had in his hands was a violin. Despite being bad at guitar to start with, he learnt it fast and would play it with bloodied fingers.

After being home-schooled for three years and after the California High School Proficiency Exam, he went on to complete his high school education.

A Teenage Artist

Until 2005, Austin Butler worked as an extra on shows before landing a role on Nickelodeon’s Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide.

Lindsey Shaw, a colleague and good friend, introduced him to her manager, who agreed to hire him.
His first major break came on the Disney-produced Hannah Montana, where he was a guest star and portrayed Derek Hanson.

After appearing as Jake Krandle on the Nickelodeon series iCarly in the episode iLike Jake, Austin Butler landed his first recurring role on Zoey 101 as James Garrett.

He gained fame for his role on Zoey 101, in which he portrayed the love interest of the show’s title character for nine episodes in season 4.

Films &Teenage Dramas

In 2009, Austin Butler was offered the main role in the movie Aliens in the Attic, under the distribution of 20th Century Fox. It was an adventure movie where he played the role of Jake Pearson, a brave kid who battles with aliens to save his home and family.

In 2009, he starred in ABC’s family sitcom Ruby & The Rockits in a lead role. In the series, he played Jordan Gallager, a teen who has a crush on his cousin and loves to play the guitar.

Therefore, his fans got to see both his singing and instrument playing abilities.
2010 brought his being cast as a recurring actor in the family drama Life Unexpected. Throughout the year, he was seen on TV, in shows like Wizards of Waverly Place, JONAS, CSI Miami as well as The Defenders.

Austin Butler has enjoyed success as both a TV and film actor and joined the cast of Death of the Author in 2014 at Geffen Playhouse, Los Angeles.

The play was a hit and ran for more than a month; he played a young pre-law student with a double major in mathematics and politics; numerous magazines praised his performance.

The Shannara Chronicles is based on Terry Brooks’ novel The Elfstones of Shannara, where he plays Wil Ohmsford, the last of his bloodline who must save his land from demons.

The following year, Austin Butler played murderer and member of the Manson Family Tex Watson in the comedy-drama Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Personal Life & Legacy

Austin Butler was in a relationship with actor Vanessa Hudgens from 2011-2020, which ended this week. By the year 2021, he was dating both Lily-Rose Depp and Kaia Gerber.

In the beginning of his career, he acted with his sister Ashley on the Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide.

His circle of friends consists of Ashley Tisdale, Alexa Vega, Cater Jenkins, Lindsey Shaw, and Lucy Hale. He also carried the ring for Alexa Vega and Sean Covel’s wedding.
